CELEBRATING A HISTORIC VISIONARY

Colonel Allen Allensworth State Historic Park
Interpretive Master Plan
Allensworth, California

Named after its pioneering founder Colonel Allen Allensworth, the California town of Allensworth operated as an independent and self-governed ranching and farming community by Black and African American residents at the beginning of the 20th century. Established as a State Historic Park in 1976, the site preserves and interprets the restored town as it was originally envisioned. Our interpretive planning effort included community workshops throughout California to ensure that all stakeholder voices, including former residents, informed the Interpretive Master Plan.
